New York Sports Club of Somerset Raises Awareness
In an effort to raise awareness about diabetes, Michael's Miracles offered to check blood glucose levels of New York Sports Club members and provided literature. Approximately 100 gym members walked away with a little more knowledge about their bodies and diabetes. Thanks to NYSC for allowing us to spend the day at their facility. The New York Sports Club is located on Cedar Grove Lane in Somerset.
National Diabetes Awareness Month - Coloring Raritan Blue
Think About It...Diabetes is a chronic, debilitating disease affecting every organ system. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food. Type 1 diabetes usually strikes in childhood, adolescence, or young adulthood, and lasts a lifetime. Just to survive, people with type 1 diabetes must take multiple injections of insulin daily or continually infuse insulin through a pump.
Taking insulin does not cure any type of diabetes, nor does it prevent the possibility of the disease's devastating effects: kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage, amputation, heart attack, stroke, and pregnancy complications.* |
Michael's Miracles is raising awareness by hanging blue ribbons along Somerset Street in our hometown of Raritan Borough, NJ. Local businesses around town have been kind enough to hang some of the Diabetes Awareness posters we have created to also promote awareness. Our hope is not only to raise awareness about juvenile diabetes but to ensure that every child gets the proper and essential care they need to live long, healthy lives and to help keep those families affected by this disease mentally and physically strong to deal with the daily life of living with diabetes.
So Think About It...We do. Every minute of every day.

Walk to Cure Diabetes
On October 3rd, Michael's Miracles once again walked in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes event held at Raritan Valley Community College in North Branch, NJ. Family and friends gathered to raise money for this wonderful cause and, we are happy to say we raised around $4000.00 at this years walk. The 2010 Michael's Miracles Walk Team was sponsored by the Bound Brook Moose Lodge #988, Bentley's Fine Jewelery, Scott's Florist, Koren Family Dental and "Poppy" Tom and Linda Campbell. We appreciate the generosity of our sponsors as well as everyone who takes the time to support Michael's Miracles efforts to help find a cure.
Golfing For A Cure 2010
The Second Annual Golf to Cure Diabetes Fundraiser, held on May 10th at Mattawang Golf Club in Belle Mead, NJ was once again a big success. Over 100 golfers attended our outing and enjoyed a beautiful day of golf to raise money for the JDRF and the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Department of Pediatrics/Division of Endocrinology. We would like to thank all our voulunteers, golfers, hole and event sponsors and extend a special thanks to Princeton Volkswagen for coming through for us on very short notice. The surrounding communities were extremely generous to Michael's Miracles which allowed us to once again to raffle off some great prizes to our golfers. If you couldn't be there, take a look at our GOLF PICTURES to see the fun you missed! Thank you again for helping us have another great year and we look forward to seeing you next year.
2010 - Moving Forward
2009 was a great year for Michael's Miracles. And we could not have done it without the great support of family, friends and the surrounding communities. We are all still adjusting to living with diabetes. Michael's smile and positive attitude serves as a constant reminder of how lucky we are. He motivates us to help those who have walked this path before us and support those who will follow.
We have some big plans for this year and, as always we could not succeed without your support. Our Second Annual Golf to Cure Diabetes Fundraiser has been scheduled for Monday, May 10th, 2010. See our GOLF OUTING link above for more information. We are looking forward to another great year.
